Halloween Yard Art in Creve Coeur, All Over Frontenac

Project to decorate for the holiday, the brainchild of former Frontenac Mayor Lee Murray.

Drivers up and down Lindbergh Boulevard, on Spoede Road and Clayton Road can't help but notice the Halloween yard art in the easements along the way.

This was the brainchild of former Frontenac Mayor Lee Murray three years ago.Murray served as Frontenac's mayor from 2005 to 2009 and made the appearance of Frontenac a main priority.

The art is prominent in front of Chaminade College Prep, Old Frontenac Square, Shriner's Hospital for Children and Frontenac City Hall. Someone hauled down the figures in front of Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill School recently.

Chaminade students in the Art I course helped create scarecrows as part of a community project spearheaded by Bob Shelton, Frontenac's City Administrator and by Murray, the former mayor. The city supplied the frames, hay, and some clothing, and the students helped assemble the scarecrows and added the Chaminade uniforms and house shirts.

"We've planted some seeds and now we hope to see this grow," said the former mayor. "We started small and hope it gets bigger," she said.

The scarecrows will be displayed in front of Chaminade and throughout Frontenac and will stay up until shortly after Halloween.

A special thanks to Julie and Mark Laury and their freshman art students for putting together the Chaminade scarecrows and to Tom Fernandez for supplying all of the Chaminade uniforms.
