JF&CS Expands to Serve More of the Local Community
Fred Steinbach Talks about the expansion plans for family and child food services in the community.

Each week, the Ladue-Frontenac Patch invites a community leader to express their particular views and just tell us "What's on their Mind."

It is my honor, as the former President of Jewish Family and Children’s Service to share with the local community our expansion plans.

The JF&CS, a 140 year old organization opened a food pantry in our headquarters building on Schuetz and Guelbreth over 20 years ago. We were serving about 40 people initially and several years after our initiation, thanks to a very generous donation from Harvey Kornblum, we named our service the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry and began to serve as many as 2500 people per month.
When the recession of 2008 hit, our numbers skyrocketed and we began to feed nearly 6500 people per month. Our Board of Directors, recognizing the need for additional space to serve our community, purchased a building for $1,000,000 at 10601 Baur Boulevard in Creve Coeur (on the Olivette border).

We plan to open the new facility in October of this year and on October 21st we will hold a Grand Opening ceremony and all afternoon event.
This building is a testament to our desire to feed as many people in the general community as we possibly can. Our overall numbers and our Jewish clientele are both growing so rapidly that we are putting our total effort in to serving the increased population that is struggling financially.
We find that the same people, unfortunately, who were out of work one year ago are still unemployed or underemployed and national labor statistics infer that this trend will be continuing. We are doing our part to help in this endeavor and we would welcome your help.
This is a very expensive charitable project and we ask for your help as well. Please call Mark Rosen at 314-477-1466 if you wish to participate financially or personally
