MICDS, Burroughs Both Reach Their Division Lacrosse Title Games
Rams seeking first title since 2005. Bombers in Div. II match.
St. Charles...Ask any player on the MICDS boys lacrosse team if there's any unfinished business, and you will get not a single argument. More than a half dozen Rams were part of the football team which lost the Class 4 Show-Me Bowl title game to Webb City in the Edward Jones Dome last November. That stinging loss has not set well, especially with the senior bunch.
Are there some evens to get on the lacrosse field? "Oh yea," said senior Jack Howell, bound for Brown University to play football this fall.
Senior Mac Cornwell scored three first-half goals to slice and dice Chaminade in the semifinals of the Missouri Scholastic Lacrosse Association semifinal at Harlan Hunter Stadium at Lindenwood Wednesday night. They romped over the Red Devils 12-5.

Most Chaminade scoring came after coach Andy Kay cleared his bench and retired his goalkeeper Tom O'Hara for Sam Margulis late in the match.
"We knew we had a lot of skilled players to get to the championship," said Cornwell. A year ago, Rockhurst captured the title from the Rams.

"Yes, we're the top seed in the tournament, but that means nothing," said Cornwell. "That helped to build up to the playoffs, but we had to win everything since then," he said.
The Rams face the winner of SLUH/Parkway West who played the other semifinal game Thursday night.
"We're pumped; there's an awesome amount of athletic talent on this team," said Howell.
"It wasn't a lot of fun losing that football game," said Chris Hiemenz. "We're a strong team, and we just keep working hard," said Hiemenz.
MICDS got off to a roaring start, scoring the first four goals of the game. Only Noah Iverson's goal at the start of the second quarter slowed up the attack.
At half, MICDS had a comfortable 11-2 cushion. Surprisingly, the third quarter went scoreless, and in the final stanza, with the game out of reach, The Red Devils outscored the Rams 3-1.
Kay reminded his team they were going back to the championship, and he was very proud of everything they got done Wednesday night.
Too bad Webb City doesn't play lacrosse. The MICDS seniors in particular would relish just one more shot at them.
Burroughs wins in overtime.
Alex Gafford came up with the game winner in the Division II semifinals, with the Bombers beating Webster Groves 11-10 in overtime. Gafford scored the game winner in sudden death with just 1:32 remaining in the four-minute extra period.
Burroughs was down 4-1 in the early going and fought back to win. Burroughs has never won a title in the 16-years of championship play.
