MICDS Heads to Farmington; Burroughs Hosts School of the Osage Saturday

Trips in Class 3 & 4 to the Show Me Bowl on the line next week at the Edward Jones Dome.

By the time the MICDS Rams travel 90 minutes down highways 1-55 and !-67 into Farmington, they will know they are in for a dog fight.

The black and gold clad Black Knights will have the stands packed to the limits by the time they arrive. Farmington has had a brilliant 12-1 season, almost matching the Rams perfect record of 13-0.

The Knights did fall to McCluer North, 45-17.

Their scoreboard is tilted far to their side. They smashed New Madrid County Central 60-0. They have a 54-14 win over Jackson, 49-14 over Cape Girardeau Central, 48-0 over Perryville, 49-6 over North County Desloge and 61-14 over DeSoto. Their closest game was last week’s 31-14 win over Gateway Tech.

They’ve outscored opponents 589-179.

Coach Todd Vaughn’s team generally takes no prisoners.

Chase Busenbark is their quarterback. He’s amassed 1,239 yards passing and 24 TDs. Connor Davault is their leading rusher. He has 1,273 yards and 22 rushing TDs.

The receiving corp is very deep. Doug Warren has gone deep for 583 yards and 6 TDs. He’s complimented by Kyle Hartrup, 393 yards and 4 TDs; Alec Sebastian, 312 yards and 4 TDs.

Defensively, Roper Garrett, linebacker has 103 tackles in 13 games while defensive lineman Ethan Hennes has 56 tackles.

Meanwhile, MICDS has piled up the TDs and the points in 13 consecutive wins. Michael Scherer has notched 25 total TDs, wide receiver Jack Howell 18 more.

Ivy League bound quarterback Thomas Militello has been lighting up the scoreboard. He’s completed 65 percent of his passes for 2,794 yards, 33 TDs and just 8 interceptions. His top target is Howell, 44 catches, 964 yards, 17 TDs and a mind boggling 17.5 yards per catch average. Militello likes to spread the wealth around to Foster Bundy, Scherer, Clayton Buddemeyer; A.J. Washington and others. Everyone can catch the ball.

School of the Osage (13-0) at John Burroughs, (12-1), 1:30 p.m.

Listen to the game live on the Burroughs internet broadcast.

The Indians from the Lake of the Ozarks will head to the artificial turf at JBS with a full head of steam. Dan Henderson’s team overflows with confidence and talent. “We had a lot of injuries early, we didn’t get our entire team healthy and back together until our eighth game,” said Henderson.

The big wins came over Boonville, Jeff City Blair Oaks (a team in the Class 2 semifinals), a 63-21 win over North Calloway while earning the Tri County Conference title.

The Indians like to operate out of a spread formation. They will throw the ball all over the parking lot. The quarterback is Bo Dean.

Wide receiver Dillon McNerney has 20 catches just in the last three games. Cody Maher carries the mail after missing the first three games with a knee injury. He’s rushed 130 times for 961 yards and 11 TDs.

Linebacking is the Indian’s strength. Alex Berger has a gaudy 13 sacks and a total 163 tackles. Christian Williams, another heavy hitter plays alongside Berger.

“We’re looking forward to our trip to St. Louis and the game with Burroughs,” said Henderson.

Burroughs will compliment with Mr. Inside Ezekiel Elliott and Mr. outside, wide receiver Nathan Adams.

Track star Elliott, a junior has 37 rushing TDs; 1,542 on the ground with an average of an amazing 9.1 yards per touch.

Adams has grabbed 44 balls for 774 yards and 10 TDs (17.6 yards per catch average).

Senior signal caller Davey Holmes won the battle over Peter Schnuck early on and has thrown for 1,997 yards and 29 TDs, good for a 65 percent completion mark. Schnuck has moved out to wide receiver.

Defensively, linebacker Sam Hefler has 812 tackles and 114 points. Linebacker Bear Kaminer banged up his shoulder in the semifinal win last Saturday and his condition is unknown at this time.
