MICDS, Ladue, Burroughs Look to Extend Winning Ways
Local football teams will face unique challenges this weekend.
The 2-2 Ladue Rams face Normandy, 2-2, which is an enigma of a team. Normandy has wins over Triad and Affton, while falling to Quincy, IL and Jennings.
Ladue pummeled Jennings 48-26 last Saturday.
Rain is in the forecast for tomorrow. "I hope it doesn't rain much," Ladue coach Mike Tarpey said. He points to the downpour of a game on the Vikings field two years ago.
"We had so much rain and lightening a 1 o'clock start turned out to be a 3 o'clock start. We had made arrangements to move the game to the turf at SLUH, but we played it anyway at Normandy. It was a very sloppy field," he recalled.
Ladue is looking for three in a row beating McCluer-Berkeley South and Jennings the past two Saturdays.

Quarterback Brandon Carr has passed for 669 yards and four TDs. His top receiver Jehu Chesson has been pretty much bottled up, having caught just one TD this season so far.
Normandy has the one-two punch of quarterback Moses Larkin and tailback Jason Lewis. Larkin has passed for 361 yards and five TDs, while Lewis has rushed for 530 yards and seven TDs. The top receiver is Terrell Whitfield with 116 yards and nine TDs.

Burroughs at Lutheran North
Mike Russell has returned to guide the Crusaders and his team is off to a 4-0 start. Quarterback Glenn Bradford provides the offensive spark with 658 yards passing and nine TDs and 267 yards rushing and five more TDs.
Receiver Anthony Virdure has 15 snags for 201 yards and five TDs.
Zeke Elliott is Burroughs' rushing star. He has 502 yards on the ground and 11 six-pointers.
Quarterback duties are still split between Dave Holmes and Peter Schnuck. Holmes has 485 yards passing and nine TDs while Schnuck has connected for 226 yards and 3 TDs.
MICDS at Principia
These are two teams going in opposite directions. The Rams are 4-0, with a mighty 32-20 win over Jefferson City Helias. Meanwhile, Principia is 0-4, dropping games to Valle Ste. Genevieve, Burroughs, Windsor and Lutheran South.
Rams coach Josh Smith says they are looking to build on the momentum of the big win over Helias. "We are a little banged up after a tough four-game stretch. We are excited to get into conference play as we strive to get better each week."
Overall, Smith likes the progress of his team.
"While we are pleased with how the first month of the season has gone, the players and coaches know this is just the beginning and it is going to take continued focus and hard work to keep playing at a high level."
Looming ahead in October is the battle of the Rams, Ladue and MICDS.
