Mike Flotken Brings Seniors and Handicapped Transportation Service to Mid-County

ADA Equipped Sienna Mini Vans are providing solutions for seniors' transport needs.

For 22 years Flotken has served the needs of the business community with his advertising and direct mailing/marketing agency “Total Marketing Solutions.”

Nearing retirement age, this Ladue resident was looking for another way to create a new business. Looking at the ever-growing senior population, he knew that providing transportation for seniors and the disabled is an on-going challenge.

Currently options exist like ‘Call a Ride,’ or transportation provided by nursing homes and retirement centers. “Sometimes, you can’t wait 2-4 hours to get rides back and forth just to doctors visits,” said Flotken. “Those services are not always reliable. “

Flotken thought that a better, more convenient transportation system was needed.

So, Flotken invested in Toyota Sienna Mini-Vans to provide turn-key transportation for those in need of a more reliable transportation solution. The Mobility for U vans rent for $125 dollars a day, the renter providing the gas and the auto insurance.

“My mother-in-law is 85-years old, lives in Olivette and is confined to a wheel chair with 24 hour around the clock nursing care. We wanted to get her out and about. The first time that we picked her up in the van, she got to cut the “Grand Opening” red ribbon on the vehicle which made her extremely happy,”

This is just another new concept for a guy who is always trying to stay ahead of the business curve.

Flotken is a 1969 graduate of Ladue Horton Watkins High School. He is a product of the former Flotken’s Super Market in Olivette (soon to be home of the new Shane Co. Jewelry store).

“My brothers, sister and I got our start in the business world by working in the Jell-o department. Dad figured that would be easy for us, and if we dropped something, it wouldn’t break.” Flotken’s Supermarket operated in Olivette from 1961 to 1985.

Flotken’s new company, aptly named MobilityforU.com provides wheel chair accessible van transportation. The vehicles are not those gigantic trucks where lifts are needed to get the wheelchair on-board; they are simple to drive Toyota Sienna Mini-Vans with easily operated ramps.

Each van is ADA (Americans with Disability Act) approved. Renters should go to the MobilityforU.com website or call 314-873-6814. A get acquainted offer, on the website, will save customers $10 off their first daily rental.
