National Weather Service Continues Extreme Heat Advisory for the Region

Possible rain, Wednesday, Thursday could bring partial relief to this area.

A ridge of high pressure will remain in control over the region through today before beginning to break down somewhat on Wednesday as a cold front presses in from the north. Look for air temperatures to surge into the 100 to 110 degree range today which will threaten records over a large area.

Peak heat index readings will only be slightly higher, with values from 105 to 115. Despite a cold front pushing through, the dangerous heat and humidity will continue into Wednesday, as the front will result in only a slight reduction in the extreme heat. The worst conditions will be seen for areas south of Interstate 70, with high temperatures well into the 90s, perhaps even pushing 100 degrees, with peak heat index readings between 105 and 115.

KSDK-TV has issued heat advisories for a number of counties in Missouri and Illinois.

The cold front will also bring with it the chance for thunderstorms. With the front expected to linger over the region through Friday, look for the chance of rain to continue for much of this period. Heat warnings and advisories remain in effect throughout the region until Wednesday evening.

Everyone is advised to stay indoors in airconditioning as much as possible. Those working outdoors should take plenty of precautions including staying as hydrated as much as possible. Also keep all pets indoors during this extreme heat.
