Local group at the Jewish Community Center shares honors with the Rep.

Now is the time to become a part of the magic that is New Jewish Theatre by becoming a subscriber. After having received an astounding 14 nominations, the New Jewish Theatre, St. Louis’ Premier Small Professional Theatre made Kevin Kline history at the 7th Annual Awards ceremony on April 2.
Bested only by the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis (seven awards), NJT captured six of the coveted awards. Topping the list was Outstanding Production of a Play for last season’s Awake and Sing! In addition, that show also received the award for Outstanding Set Design.
The Immigrant, a play about a Russian-Jewish banana peddler in a small Texas town was the most honored production of the year, winning four awards. It had received eight nominations, which was more than any other nominated production.
The play took three of the four top acting honors with awards going to Bob Thibaut for Outstanding Lead Actor, and Gary Wayne Barker and Peggy Billo for Outstanding Supporting Actor and Actress. The entire cast was honored with an Outstanding Ensemble Award.
The Kevin Kline Awards recognize excellence in professional theatre in St. Louis. The New Jewish Theatre, a culturally specific theatre whose mission is to explore the Jewish experience through the medium of theatre, has made a huge impact on the cultural landscape of St. Louis.
