Nine Ladue Student/Athletes Sign Letters of Intent
Jehu Chesson heads to Michigan football, others head to variety of different destinations.
The Ladue Rams were in a celebratory mood. They had nine of their finest athletes sign national letters of intent Wednesday at the end of the school day. They were surrounded by family and friends, teachers and administrators. Everyone in the room was a well wisher.
Three of those who signed letters will play football collegiately. While Jehu Chesson inked for the Michigan Wolverines; Deavin Edwards and Michael Horton-Lofton affixed their signatures to agreements with Missouri Valley College.
Other student/athletes who announced their plans were Maddie Wall, Dartmouth College for swimming; Katie Westervelt, Williams College for rowing; Chandler Millstone, Colgate University for lacrosse; Elena Gresick, Johns Hopkins University for field hockey; Libby Ferris, Carleton College for tennis and Danielle Dub, Central Methodist University for softball.
No one could be happier to get it over than was Chesson. He is eager to move on to Ann Arbor. “I’m pretty good friends with another receiver Amara Darboh (of West Des Moines, IA). We are going to room together.”
Chesson is believed to be the first St. Louis player to go to Michigan for football in 50 years.
Chesson narrowed his recruiting list to a threesome of Michigan, Iowa and Northwestern. “Pat Fitzgerald is a great coach at Northwestern, but I’m really looking forward to playing for Brady Hoke. Both schools have strong academic programs, so I couldn’t go wrong.”

Chesson isn’t worrying about going to a big time school and into a totally new environment. “I just know I’ll have to stay focused and keep my priorities in order.”
His coach, Mike Tarpey says Chesson has his life in order. Praising Chesson, he said “Jehu did all the right things right from elementary school on. He took the right courses. He was fully prepared for college,” said his coach.
