Once details are finalized, the APA Adoption Center will take over management of the St. Louis County Animal Care and Adoption Center at 10521 Baur Blvd. in Olivette in addition to its current location on Hanley Road in Brentwood.
Under the APA Adoption Center, the St. Louis County shelter will continue to provide shelter and adoption services for animals from St. Louis County. With nearly 100 years of animal welfare experience and expertise, the APA will extend its specialized programs that promote adoption and wellness of pets, as well as support pet owners and help keep pets in the homes of the people who love them. In 2021, the APA completed 4,758 pet adoptions and served over 5,000 pets through wellness and outreach programming such as free vaccine clinics and pet food distributions to under-resourced communities.

“The APA appreciates and supports the efforts St. Louis County is making to improve the lives of pets, and we believe this partnership opportunity is a really positive step forward,” said Sarah Javier, president and CEO of the APA Adoption Center. “We are confident our expertise and programming will be transformative for pets throughout our community.”
Since the release of the City Gate audit in June 2019, ACC has made strides in improving shelter operations.
“The APA will really take us to the next level,” said Dr. Faisal Khan, acting director of the St. Louis County Department of Public Health. “We believe it is time to leverage the expertise and experience of a non-profit partner to further improve our animal care and control services, and the APA Adoption Center is an excellent organization that will help make that happen.”
