January 28, 2022
St. Louis County Library has added a sixth location for families to pick-up a monthly supply of diapers. Starting February 1, the Indian Trails Branch will offer diapers and period supplies to patrons. The program is part of a partnership with the St. Louis Area Diaper Bank to provide families in need with a supply of diapers each month at select library branches. Families can pick up a supply of appropriately sized diapers or training pants for children ages 3 and under. Diapers are available for pick-up during regular library hours, Monday-Thursday - 9:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. and Friday-Saturday - 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Visit www.slcl.org/diapers for more information.

Statistics show that parents in St. Louis routinely struggle to afford the $1,200/year it takes to buy diapers. As a result, many parents try to “stretch” diapers by lining them with newspaper, repairing them with duct tape, scraping them “clean,” or simply leaving a soiled diaper on a child for too long.
County Libraries are a destination for area families who enjoy checking out books and visiting the new and renovated children’s spaces. Providing diapers to families at the library is a convenient way for caregivers to keep their babies clean and healthy and to learn about other library resources.
SLCL and the St. Louis Area Diaper Bank first teamed up in 2019 to provide emergency diapers at two library locations. The partnership has expanded during the COVID-19 pandemic to six locations, where individuals can pick up a monthly supply of diapers. Period supplies are also available at the six participating library branches through the St. Louis Alliance for Period Supplies, an initiative of the St. Louis Area Diaper Bank.
The mission of the St. Louis Area Diaper Bank is to provide diapers and period products to economically disadvantaged families and raise awareness about the causes and consequences of the material shortage of poverty. The St. Louis Area Diaper Bank distributes products through a network of 55+ of the region’s most respected health care, educational and non-profit organizations working to strengthen and stabilize economically disadvantaged families.
