Runnerup consideration goes to Shriner's Hospital for Children receiving its largest grant in history and the football teams at MICDS and John Burroughs taking second place in the Show Me Bowl football championships.
Also, MICDS getting a $21 million dollar gift from the McDonnell family Foundation to build a new math-science center, and John Burroughs unveiling plans to build a new athletic-performing arts center drew consideration.
The death of Cardinals owner Drew Baur, MICDS graduate was significant as was the death of model Adrienne Martin at the estate of August Busch IV. Ms. Martin died in December of 2010, and the investigation played out during 2011. This year also marked the passing of long-time Ladue resident Marty Marion, shortstop of the 1940s for the Cardinals.
