5 Things to Know About Lead Paint

The City of Brentwood is helping the EPA raise awareness about its Renovate, Repair and Painting Program through lead paint awareness.

The Environmental Protection Agency is asking municipalities to help increase awareness of lead hazards and lead safety and the City of Brentwood recently posted a list of information for residents renovating homes built before 1978.

Did you know this:

Certification: Contractors who do work on houses built before 1978 are required to have a Renovate, Repair and Painting Program firm and individual training certification; and to use specific lead-safe work practices during renovation work.

Lead Dust and Chips: Common renovation, repair, and painting activities that disturb lead-based paint (like sanding, cutting, replacing windows, and more) can create hazardous lead dust and chips which can be harmful to adults and children.

Violating the Law: If you suspect work activities could be possible violations, report it. Information you submit will be forwarded to EPA environmental enforcement personnel.

National Lead Information Center: NLIC provides the general public and professionals with information about lead, lead hazards, and their prevention. It is contracted with the EPA and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
