The Brentwood Hgh School Color Guard won the statewide competition on Saturday, in Springfield. They previously on Feb. 25.
The group's organizer, Kate Anthony, sent in this report of its performance.
The Pride of Brentwood Winter Guard competed in their final competition of the season, MCCGA Championships (Mid-Continent Color Guard Association). In our division, Regional A, there were 27 performing units, competing in three rounds. I am happy to say that the girls captured first place and the gold medal, with a score of 81.45 (out of 100), beating the second-place guard in our round by 8.6 points and the second-place group overall in their division, by 6.4 points! (A huge point spread!)Â This win has promoted them into the next class of competition, Scholastic C, for next winter.
I cannot begin to tell you how proud I am of the drive, work ethic, and passion for the activity that each and every girl has exhibited throughout this season. The school and community have a lot to celebrate with these girls. They are quite a professional group of young women, and I could not be more proud.

All weekend, I received nothing but compliments on their performance, and I want you to know they are highly respected in our competitive circuit, both for their execution of the show and the manner in which they carry themselves before and after performances. We even received high praise from the dance tech for the top winter guard at Missouri State (a group that ranks in the top 15 groups in the world!)
Again, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation and gratitude for all that each of you do to support these girls. I know that we are just a small activity within the school, but they are truly a special group, and performers in the Midwest recognize them as a force to be reckoned with.

Patch talked with first-year color guard member, Gabby Zoellner, on Sunday.
"I worked so hard making sure that I learned all of the material," she said.
"I knew that I could perform it the best that I could, because I wanted to make sure the team as a whole was confident with the routine and nobody was shaky on parts. We all worked really hard to do our best to make it a great year."
