Brentwood Government Target of Post-Dispatch Editorial

On Friday, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch published an editorial that attacked the City of Brentwood for failing to release a document that outlined the city's agreement with the to withhold pay in an effort to pay back the hundreds of thousands of dollars of unearned overtime pay given to Brentwood firefighters.

Post-Dispatch reporter wrote a story in July about Brentwood firefighters being paid for more hours than they were actually working. The story prompted Brentwood residents and demand more from their elected officials.

Since then, the newspaper requested under the Missouri Sunshine Law a copy of the agreement reached between the City of Brentwood and Firefighters Local 2665, which represents Brentwood firefighters.

The city declined to provide the document and instead . The courts ruled in favor of the Post-Dispatch.

Following the ruling, the city made the document—a one-sentence agreement totaling 40 words—available to the public. A copy is attached as a PDF to this article.
