Chris Seemayer Sentenced to 5 Years Probation

More than three months after pleading guilty to stealing nearly $30,000 from the city he once ran, Chris Seemayer learned the penalty of his crime.

The former Brentwood city administrator was sentenced to five years probation with six months of home confinement and a $2,000 fine. Seemayer, 52 of Fenton, is also required to pay back the money he embezzled.

U.S. District Judge Catherine Perry delivered the sentence in the federal courthouse in downtown St. Louis on Wednesday afternoon.

U.S. Assistant Attorney Hal Goldsmith had sought a stronger punishment, but Perry granted leniency in Seemayer's sentencing because of the public nature of his crime, which she said was a stronger penalty. His career as a public worker is likely over, Perry said. 

Under federal sentencing guidelines, Seemayer could have faced between six months to one year in prison.
