Insurance for Brentwood's Mayor, Aldermen: Will it Continue?

On May 31, for elected officials at the May 21 Board of Aldermen meeting.

The total annual cost to the city is almost $24,000.

The aldermen in office before the April election can participate. The new officials are excluded, though city administrator Bola Akande said, “We are exploring other options that affords the newly elected officials an opportunity to participate."

Brentwood mayor Pat Kelly told the St. Louis Post Dispatch that he sees nothing wrong with city-provided health insurance for aldermen and himself.

"It's a great benefit that has been offered to our elected officials in the past and some take advantage and some don't," he said. The city has been paying for elected officials' insurance since the early 1990s."

He also told the Post Dispatch that the insurance benefit for elected officials is being phased out by the insurer.

The next Brentwood Board of Aldermen meeting is June 11 at 6 p.m. at the Brentwood Community Center, room 104.

They are expected to discuss the future of the and ice rink.

Akande said she thought the insurance issue might be resolved before the meeting.
