“It can be any over-the-counter drugs, like Claritin,” said Officer Mike Schira with the South County Precinct. “If people are cleaning out their medicine cabinet and want to get rid of heart, pain medication or anything at all, we’ll take it.”
Police said this day is especially helpful for the elderly, who can correctly dispose of their medication instead of throwing it in the trash.

“It lessens the risk of somebody getting in there and taking it, especially a child,” Schira said.
The event is completely anonymous and police said they’re taking a “no questions asked” approach.
