Pro QuikTrip Flyer Hits Maplewood Mailboxes, Heats Up Conversation

As a group gathers signatures to stop the QuikTrip move, the Maplewood Chamber of Commerce mails a pro-move flier to residents.

The Maplewood Chamber of Commerce has taken the QuikTrip relocation, OK'd by city council, but contested by some, to the residents.

A group of residents opposed to the move are collecting signatures to force a referendum, and are about a week and a half into a 30-day deadline to gather more than a thousand certified signatures.

Some Maplewood residents, including Mayor James White and former mayor Andy Hummert have gone on the offensive, and spoken in favor of the relocation in a chamber-sponsored flyer that many residents received in the mail on Wednesday.

Wednesday's mailing brought comments from both sides on Maplewood-Brentwood Patch Facebook. Here are some of the first, in the order they came in. You may add your own comment here or on the Facebook page.

I love it. My favorite thing from the Christmas walk was the look on the ladies face who asked me to sign the petition and I told her "no way!"

QT!!!

We had two lovely people come by our house and ask us to sign the petition - my husband and I gladly did so. I think that adding another business to that already busy intersection is a bad idea, and at the very least, I think that we should get the chance to vote on it. I don't want a giant gas station in my backyard.

Katie, that new location would be a great distance futher from anyone's back yard than it is right now. So if a business shoulldn't go there, please enlighten us as to what should...

Thats exactly what I was going to asking Bart. Good question!

That intersection is already busy enough and with the middle/high school right there it would be TOO busy. Safety for the kids first. Just my opinion.

I'd just rather have a Dunkin' Donuts!:) Or at least something that doesn't already exist 1/4 mile down the road...
