Man Charged with Choking, Restraining Woman During Assault

A Valley Park man is being charged with felonious restraint and third-degree assault stemming from .

According to a St. Louis County Police report, Matthew A. Carta, 31, of the 700 block of Overlook Circle in Valley Park, assaulted a woman, choked her and prevented her from getting away.

The victim was visiting with Carta on the 2600 block of Park Hill Circle in Mehlville, when he reportedly refused to let her to leave. He started choking her and tried to force her into another room, police said in the report. The woman escaped, unlocked the door and fled.

Bond was set at $20,000.
