Mehlville, Lindbergh Students' Penny Competitions Help Send Military Care Packages
Point and Kennerly fifth graders helped raise $350 for Pennies for Patients. The students' combined efforts will allow 36 care packages to be sent to troops serving in combat zones.
Fifth-grade students at Point Elementary School recently entered a friendly competition with fifth-graders from Kennerly Elementary School, collecting pennies to support American troops overseas, according to a news release from the Lindbergh School District.
Pennies for Patients is a program run by “A Soldier’s Wish List,” a nonprofit organization that supports troops serving in combat zones by sending soldiers gifts, reading materials and care packages. Kennerly fifth-graders, along with their second-grade friends, raised $350 over five days – enough to send 28 care packages, according to the release.
The fifth-graders at Point raised enough money over eight days to ship 25 packages, and they joined efforts with their entire school to collect $450 – enough for 36 packages – in all.
