This is Shakespeare like you have never seen before. “Taming of the Shrew” shows the comedic love story of Katherina and Petruchio.
This classic “rom-com” features Katherina, a “shrew” in Padua, who must find a husband before her sister Bianca is allowed to marry. Petruchio comes to town from Verona searching for a wealthy wife, and gratefully accepts the challenge of winning over Katherina. Meanwhile, suitors in the town scheme and take on alternate identities all to earn Bianca’s love. Will Petruchio have Katherina for his wife? Come find out on November 18-20 as the Panther Players bring a Wild West take to a beloved Shakespeare classic.
Director Theresa Nigus stated, “I am excited to bring “Taming of the Shrew” to the FZN stage. Setting it in the old west and producing it in slapstick style brings us close to Shakespeare’s original inspiration of the commedia dell arte of Italy. “Shrew” should be a tongue-in-cheek look at the battle of the sexes, all done with a nod and a wink to the audience. The cast has worked really hard to do justice to this style.” Fort Zumwalt North Senior Michael Schmitt, who plays Petruchio, says, “This show has helped me prepare myself for the best senior year I could wish for. I love all of this cast more than anything.”
Come support the Fort Zumwalt North High Drama Department and enjoy “Taming of the Shrew”!
