
FZN Senior Lucy Paro recently committed to Webster University where she will play tennis for the Gorlocks. Paro is a relative newcomer to the sport, taking up tennis her sophomore year. Despite her lack of previous experience, she quickly excelled in the sport. As a junior, she ranked #3 on the Panther singles roster and was on the #2 doubles team. That season, Paro was the conference runner-up in singles play, while winning the title in doubles. Striving for improvement, Paro begin to work outside the high school season, participating in several USTA events. This past fall, she emerged as the Panthers #1 player. She led the Panther tennis team to their finest season in school history as the team posted 16 – 3 overall record while winning the conference title. Paro finished 3rd in the conference in singles play while taking 2nd in doubles. Playing doubles in the district tournament, Paro and her partner, Diane Calzada-Torres, finished 3rd in one of the area’s most competitive districts. In addition to her accolades on the court, Paro excels in the classroom sporting an impressive 4.023 GPA. For her efforts she was placed on the conference “All-Academic” team.
Webster University is an NCAA D3 member school that compete in athletics as a member of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference. Last season, the Gorlocks finished with a 15 – 12 record. Paro will be the second Panther to compete for Webster University in recent years, joining 2020 graduate – Jordyn Grimes, who plays basketball for the Gorlocks. Paro is undecided on a major but is leaning toward advertising.
