City Staff Makes Recommendation For O’Fallon Trash, Recycling Consultant

is moving closer to hiring a consultant to audit the city’s trash and recycling services.
City Council approved a resolution at the Dec. 8, 2011 meeting, allowing staff to hire a consultant to evaluate environmental services, with the intent of improving, not selling the department.
At Thursday’s workshop meeting, Public Works Director Steve Bender said the city received proposals from four firms:

Bender said city staff organized a committee that reviewed the proposals and rated each firm based on the criteria from the Request for Qualifications (RFQ).
Criteria included experience, understanding of project requirements, favorable references, commitment to the project time requirement, staffing and a local preference category.

Bender said the city committee’s recommendation is to negotiate with Shaw Environmental.
“Our next step would be to go ahead and negotiate with them and bring a contract back to the council,” Bender said.
