Three FZN athletes to continue athletic careers!

Three FZN athletes, Antwon Friend, Shea Nortrup and Ayden Figg, recently signed with their respective schools with intentions of continuing their athletic careers.

Friend signed with Maryville University, located in St. Louis County, with plans of participating in track for the Saints. Friend, who was also a member of the FZN football team, was a state qualifier as a member of the Panthers 4X400 relay team. This spring, Friend will compete in the 400 M, 800 M and the 4X400 M and 4X800 M relay teams. Maryville is an NCAA Division 2 school that competes in athletics as a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).

Nortrup, who earned varsity letters in three sports at FZN: softball, wrestling and soccer, plans on playing soccer at Fontbonne University, located in St. Louis. Nortrup has been a stand out on the Panther soccer team the last three seasons, earning 2nd team “All-Conference” honors as a defender a season ago. In addition to playing at FZN, she has extensive club soccer experience. Nortrup will join her sister, Alex, in the college ranks. Alex currently plays at William Woods University. An excellent student, who sports a 4.06 GPA, Nortrup has twice earned GAC “All-Academic” honors. Fontbonne is an NCAA Division 3 school that competes in athletics as a member of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Figg, a four-year member of the FZN varsity soccer team, committed to Olivet Nazarene University located in Bourbannais, IL. Figg played a prominent role for the Panthers the last two seasons, as the team won 34 games over the course of that time. The 34 wins represent the highest consecutive win total in school history. Figg was twice honored for his play as a 2nd team “All-Conference” defender. An honor-student, with a 4.08 GPA, Figg garnered conference “All-Academic” honors in each of the past three seasons. Figg also plays club soccer and is a member of the FZN tennis team. Olivet Nazarene is a NAIA institution that competes in athletics as a member of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
