City OKs Purchase of New Animal Control Vehicle
The new vehicle will cost the city $14,878, including the trade-in value for the old vehicle.

Olivette residents will soon see a new animal control vehicle cruising the streets after the city council last week OK'ed the purchase of a new Chevrolet Silverado.
The 2013 vehicle will replace a Ford Ranger truck that's been in operation since 1999. The city will spend $16,628, minus the trade-in value of $1,750 for the Ranger. The city received bids and will purchase from Don Brown Chevrolet, 2244 S. Kingshighway.
The vehicle is the "home away from home" for the city's lone animal control officer, Roman Schmulevich.

"He is known throughout the community for his dedication and knowledge when dealing with a wide range of animal nuisances and issues," said Police Chief Rick Knox, whose department oversees the animal control division. "Roman has several other duties and responsibilities besides animal complaints."
Knox said they include serving as a crossing guard at Dielman and Old Bonhomme in the morning and afternoon. He also does the day-to-day maintenance at city hall.
