Council Approves 2 Grants for Police Work

Chief Rick Knox secured almost $21,000 to combat DWI and reduce speeding in the community.

The OlivetteΒ  City Council approved two Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) grants for public safety.

The first, a DWI check point grant for $12,152.00 and the second a Hazardous Moving Violations Grant for $8,418.75.

The first grant is mainly to pay patrol office overtime to run DWI check points in the next year.

The second grant is to purchase two Stalker Dual mounted radar units. The city is expected to pay 25 percent of the second grant, $1,006.25 forΒ  each of the two radar units.

The goal of the city is to decrease hazardous moving violations from 2013 through 2015. The plan being created will focus on speeding, following too closely, driving too fast for conditions, running red lights, improper lane changes and failure to yield to crash locations and corridors.

Chief Knox indicated that existing radar detectors are at the end of their service life, and need replacing.
