Olivette Council to Deal With I-170 and Olive Street Land Use Ordinance

At the Olivette city council meeting Tuesday, Aug. 28, the discussion will be about an ordinance to amend the Chapter 400 Regulations as it deals with land use in conjunction with the property on the corners of Olive Street at I-170.

“This is all about meeting the goals of the strategic plan and completing the objectives for good sound development,” said Carlos Trejo, the city’s planning administrator.

“We’ve been talking about this for about seven months,” said Mike McDowell, Olivette’s city manager. “When the time comes for development, we want to be able to consider good usage of the land and good mixed use ideas. Our council has been giving this careful consideration."

With word getting out about possible development, residents of Stoneleigh Towers subdivision on Price Road have been voicing some concerns about what they are hearing.

Presently, the only business existing on the southeast corner of the highway is the Office Max store on an oddly-shaped piece of property.

Over the years different proposals have come to the city varying from a Quick Trip and a hotel to a possible development site of a Target Store. None of those plans ever panned out.

The council will also review at the meeting a site plan extension for development of a new Fifth Third Bank where Hardees Restaurant on Olive Street once stood.
