Police Investigate Identity Theft Incidents

A pair of cases involve credit cards which were used out of state.

Olivette Police are investigating a pair of identity theft cases within the last month.

  • Police responded to Covington Meadow March 16 for a report that someone had obtained a victim's debit card number to make fraudulent purchases in Michigan.
  • Police responded to Olivaire Lane March 18 where a resident reported "fraudulent use on a debit card" in a pair of cities out of state. The card in question was not stolen, but the numbers were accessed.

The cases fit the profile of recent cases of identity theft involving customers at Schnucks, but Police have not indicated if there is a connection. Over the weekend, the grocer said it had found and contained the problem, which it attributed to a cyberattack.
