Celebrate Earth Day 2012
There are a number of events and festivities planned for Earth Day weekend in the St. Louis region.

23rd Annual St. Louis Earth Day Festival
- 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 22 on the Muny Grounds at Forest Park
- Event includes live music, performances, local food and activities.
- Kids can make an instrument out of recycled items.
Get Rid of Hard-To-Recycle Items
- 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 22 at St. Louis Community College, Forest Park campus. Shuttles are provited between Muny Grounds and Forest Park Campus.
- Bring your appliances, functioning and nonfunctioning, tv monitors, rechargeable batteries, carpet, tile, hardware supplies, styrofoam, blinds, drapery rods, untreated scrap wood, bicycles, gently used clothing and shoes, expired or unwanted pharmaceutical controlled substances, plastic bags, CFL bulbs, fabric, children's books, posters, costume jewelry. - instructor Sarah Pauzauskie will teach a free outdoor class from 9-10:15 a.m. Sunday, April 22 in to celebrate the planet. Sign up online.
Practice Yoga at The Audubon Center at Riverlands
- 11 a.m. at the Audubon Center at Riverlands, 301 Riverlands Way
West Alton, MO 63386 - Donations of $20 a person are requested. All skill levels are welcomed. Bring your own mat or practice in the grass. Practice will be led by Sarah Fraser of Sukha Yoga in Belleville.
- Chair massages and Chakra Balancing Body Mist for your yoga matt are available for a donation. Register at the Center front desk or at your nearest AVEDA Salon.
Volunteer with the City of O'Fallon

- 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Saturday, April 21
- Go green and help O’Fallon sustain a clean environment where nature can flourish. Projects include local creek cleanups, planting flowers, sprucing up parks, and getting playgrounds ready for safe fun. Email volunteer@ofallon.mo.us for more information.
Clean Out Invasive Plants at Babler State Park
- 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. April 22, 800 Guy Park Drive, Wildwood, Mo.
- Join park staff on Earth Day to participate in a day of invasive species eradication. Groups, families and individuals are welcome to participate. Registration is required to better supply tools and organize staff. Please contact the visitor center to sign up at 636-458-3813. This program is free and open to the public.
Go Bird Watching
- St. Louis Audubon Society will host a birding expedition to Mallard Lake in Creve Coeur. Mary Dueren will lead the half day trip from the Creve Coeur Lakehouse South Lot at 2160 Creve Coeur Mill Road south of 364 and east of Maryland Heights Expressway. This is a beginner trip with walking.
Community Workshop: Learn About Tomato Growing and Maintenance
- 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Bell Demonstration Garden, 3871 Bell Avenue, 63108
- Gateway Greening will offer a class on tomato growing and maintenance. Free community workshops will be offered on most Saturdays at Bell Garden. These are open to all gardeners as well as the larger public. While the topics vary throughout most weeks, they are designed for beginners to semi-advanced gardeners.
