Daily Dose: Get Free Income Tax Help

Residents can sign up for free tax preparation assistance on Mondays from Feb. 20 to April 2 at.

The college is partnering with the Internal Revenue Service Volunter Income Tax Assistance Program to offer help from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in room 106 of the College Center.

Residents with low to moderate incomes (single taxpayers who earn $40,000 or less and married taxpayers earning less than $55,000). Volunteers will completed forms 1040EZ, 1040A or 1040, and the Missouri state income tax return and e-file for free.

Volunteers are students hwo have been certified by the IRS and have completed a semester-long comprehensive tax course. The VITA volunteers are SCC students who have been certified by the IRS and completed one semester of a comprehensive tax course.

Taxpayers who are interested in the free service must bring the following documents: wage and earnings statements (Form W-2) from all employers, interest statements (Forms 1099-INT and 1099-DIV), a copy of last year’s tax return, copies of social security cards (including children) and other relevant information about income and expenses. All information will be kept confidential. Call 636-922-8228 for eligibility and additional information.
