Do You Wake Up Your Kids When Tornado Sirens Go Off?

One local mom was up all night with a toddler who couldn't fall back to sleep after the tornado sirens went off.

Each week in Moms Talk, our council of smart parents take your questions, give advice and share solutions. Meet the .

This week, Nicole Gattas, parent to a two year old, asked this question Monday morning, following the rainy, windy night.

"It's Sunday night and 11 p.m. and the tornado warning sirens start going off. Do you wake up your children and take them to the basement or chance it out that the storm will miss your house? We took Patrick down to the basement. It's so hard, he's two and he doesn't know what's going on. He did go back to sleep after awhile, but he was up for a long time. I'm wondering if other moms do it or if they just ignore it and let their kids sleep?"
