Gust of Wind Leads to Fire at Lindenwood House

Home on Karen Drive catches fire after tree branch hits power line.

A home owned by Lindenwood University caught fire Wednesday evening after a gust of wind knocked a tree limb onto power line leading to the house on Karen Drive, according to a press release from Capt. Dan Casey of the St. Charles Fire Department.

The power line started a grass fire near the rear of the house, which then spread to the deck. The high winds caused the fire to spread quickly, Casey said.

The fire was reported by Lindenwood University maintenance staff right before 5 p.m. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames quickly, however damage was estimated at $40,00 according to the fire department.
