MARTIN, TN - The Lindenwood University women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to six games and clinched a spot in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, thanks to a 2-1 win over Tennessee-Martin, Sunday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.

The Lions, who have lost just one game since the beginning of September and have won or tied in eight of their last nine, scored twice early in the first half against UT Martin and made that lead stand the rest of the game.

"It was a big road win for our group today, against a team with high level attackers," Lindenwood head coach Dave Musso said. "We are excited to get back home and continue to improve. I'm very proud of the growth of our team."

Sophomore forward Anna Johnson got the scoring going in the 7th minute, when she took a pass from teammate Mackenzie Compton and buried a shot in the top-left corner to give Lindenwood a 1-0 lead. It was Johnson's fourth goal of the season and tied her with Compton for the team lead.

Seven minutes later, sophomore Lily Sutter scored on a rebound that was set up by Compton and junior midfielder Ava Blum. It was Sutter's first goal of the season and second of her career.

With the two assists, Compton leads Lindenwood in scoring. The freshman from Wentzville (Holt High School) has four goals and five assists this season.

UT Martin scored in the 74th minute and attacked hard to try to tie the score in the game's final 15 minutes, but the Lindenwood defense, led by goalkeeper Caroline Ritter, wouldn't allow the host Skyhawks many scoring opportunities.

Ritter made three saves in the second half and finished the match with five total.

The Lions are now 8-4-2 on the season and 4-0-2 in the OVC, which is tied for first place with Arkansas-Little Rock.

Lindenwood will host Little Rock in a match that will likely decide the OVC regular season title on Sunday, November 20. Opening kick at Hunter Stadium that day is set for 1 p.m.

Before that though, the Lions will host Morehead State on Thursday, November 17. That game will also be at Hunter Stadium and will kick off at 7 p.m.
