Update: St. Charles School Board Approves Raises for Staff
Raise for staff approved unanimously.

Note an earlier version of this article included incorrect information about the group of people whose salary increase was approved. Classified staff members will receive an average 1.58 percent raise, while administrators will receive a 1.25 percent raise.
The St. Charles Board of Education approved salary increases for classified staff members for the 2012-13 school year on Thursday.
Staff members—which include custodians, paraprofessionals, receptionists, registrar, occupational therapists and speech therapists—will get say on the same "step" on the pay scale as they were on in 2011-12, however, the amount for each step was increased an average of 1.58 percent.

The district also agreed to provide ongoing standardized training for custodial employees and create cleaning standards for buildings across the district.
The board approved the salary agreement for teachers and professional staff during the April 17 board meeting. The average pay increase for teachers was 1.43 percent. The average pay increase for administrators was 1.25 percent.

First-year teachers hired in 2012-13 will have their pay frozen for their first two years in the district. Starting salary for a teacher with a Bachelor's degree $35,855 a year.
