Sunny Day Expected for Fête de Glacé in St. Charles

Although snow is preferable for ice carvers, those competing in this weekend's Fête de Glacé -- Festival of Ice -- in St. Charles can expect sunny skies with a high temperature of 31 F.
The 2013 Fête de Glacé in St. Charles will feature ice carving competition, food and entertainment on Saturday, Jan. 26.
The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the 100 to 200 blocks of North Main Street and will feature a number of ice carving competitions.

The team competition will run from 9:30 a.m. to noon and features two-people carving sculptures out of five blocks of ice. Individual competitions follow from 12:30 to 3 p.m. and sculptors carve a 260 pound block of ice.
Sculptors use chain saws, sanders, hot irons and a variety of other tools to bring their creations to life.

Community members help judge the contest by filling out ballots at the information booth. People's Choice Awards are handed out at 3:30 p.m.
