Brunner held an event at his campaign's headquarters in Creve Coeur to rally his team.
The event was a far-cry from the much-hyped appearance Friday in Kansas City by former GOP Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin, who came to Missouri to support Steelman's campaign.
"It's not about celebrities coming in," he said, taking a subtle jab at the Palin event without mentioning it by name. "What is really critical is we're not electing these people who do the endorsements, we're electing the next United States Senator," Brunner said.
Akin bookended his Missouri bus tour with a rally at the Sheraton hotel in Westport Plaza Friday night.
Akin told supporters that the primary race on Aug. 7 will be close, but that the campaign won’t push other GOP candidates down to get ahead. Akin said his campaign tries to stand on principle.
“Ya know, talk and promises are one thing,” Akin said, “but a proven record is something else.”
During his speech he advocated for the United States to withdraw from the United Nations, for judges who defend the constitution and to add a Hancock Amendment that applies to the Federal level.
