Upper MIssissippi River Comprehensive Plan Would Have 'Disastrous Impact' on St. Charles County
Officials will host meeting May 30 to update public on Plan H, which is part of the Upper Mississippi River Comprehensive Plan.

St. Charles County Councilman Jerry Daugherty, District 6, is hosting a meeting to update the public on Plan H, which is part of the Upper Mississippi River Comprehensive Plan.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. May 30 in rooms 115 and 116 in .
State Sen. Tom Dempsey and County Executive Steve Ehlmann are also expected to speak.

Plan H would raise 120 of the 140 levees along the Mississippi River to the 500-year-level, but levees in Pike, Lincoln and St. Charles Counties would remain at the current level.
Local officials in those areas have spoken out and organized residents to fight against the proposal, which is not yet supported or funded by Congress.

“We could become the floodwater holding basin for the Upper Mississippi River,” Daugherty said in a press release. “We need cooperation from all corners to stop a plan that could have a disastrous impact on St. Charles County, especially the 161,280 acres designated in the floodplain.
