Weller Wins Re-election As Ward 5 St. Charles CIty Councilman
Weller will serve third term on council.
Mike Weller won re-election as Ward 5 City Councilman Tuesday, beating challenger Nathan Schauf 585 votes to 541 votes. Weller, 53, will serve his third term on the city council.
This year, 1,130 people voted in the Ward 5 race, more than the 1,059 people who voted in 2007 when Weller was unopposed.
Schauf was happy to see that more than 1,000 voters came out for the election. "This was a huge turnout in our ward, and I’m glad to see so many people from our ward voting," he said.

"I'm glad I won, but disappointed," Weller said. He was disappointed that the residents were not more informed about his opponent and his lack of experience, he said.
Weller is involved in his church and in the community. He said prior to the election that he wanted to continue to serve on the city council so that he could help complete several city projects that are in process.

Schauf, 22, is a political newcomer who sought the seat because he thought he could make a difference. He is a student at Saint Louis University and is planning to graduate in May. He will attend the University of Missouri-St. Louis in the fall to obtain a master's in public policy administration.
Although he will not serve on the council, “I’ll still be involved and interested in working with the city,” he said.
