YMCA Seeks Possible Partnership on St. Charles Community Center Project

St. Charles City Council is expected to hear presentation from YMCA Tuesday.

Another group has expressed interest in partnering with the to build a community center.

The of Greater St. Louis is expected to present information to the city council during a work session May 22 about what the group might have to offer if it were given the chance to partner. 

Council President Laurie Feldman, Ward-3, planned to poll the council to see if there would be interest in putting out a formal Request for Proposals so any interested group could submit a proposal.

Several weeks ago, started talking with the city again about the possibility of partnering to build and run the center.

Jeff Campbell, President and CEO of ShowMe, presented a new proposed operating budget for the community center which showed a profit of $78,000 after the first year of operation.

ShowMe had previously been a partner, but couldn't come up with the funds required. That partnership was dissolved.

The council had been discussing releasing $30 million general obligation bonds that voters approved in 2008 to build a community center, but delayed the decision after ShowMe came back with a new proposal.
