The Who Coming To St. Louis As Part Of ‘Moving On’ Tour

ST. LOUIS, MO — Brace yourselves, St. louis — The Who is coming. The band led by Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey will kick off their tour May 7 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and will finish the tour this fall in Edmonton, Alberta.

Rolling Stone reported that the rock stars will be accompanied by a local orchestra on each night of their tour. But that won’t dampen the show, according to Daltrey.

“Be aware, Who fans!” Daltrey, who turns 75 in March, said in a statement. “Just because it’s The Who with an orchestra, in no way will it compromise the way Pete and I deliver our music. This will be full throttle Who with horns and bells on.”

Despite the title, the band is not calling “Moving On!” a farewell tour. But Daltrey previously told Rolling Stone the tour could be their last.

“I’m just being realistic about going through the 75th year of my life,” he said. “I have to be realistic that this is the age I am and voices start to go after a while. I don’t want to be not as good as I was two years ago.”The tour will hit major U.S. cities including Buffalo, New York, Nashville, Chicago, Philadelphia, Detroit, Pittsburgh, St, Paul, Boston, Atlanta, Ft. Lauderdale, Tampa, Houston, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, San Diego and Seattle.

Fans can expect to hear at least some of the band’s many classics, such as “Baba O’ Riley,” “Pinball Wizard,” “My Generation,” “Behind Blue Eyes” and “Won’t Get Fooled Again.”

Townshend and Daltrey are the only remaining full-time members of The Who. Drummer Keith Moon died in 1978 and he was replaced by Kenney Jones. Jones left the band in 1988. Then in 2002, bassist John Entwistle died. According to The Guardian, the current touring band includes Ringo Starr’s son Zak Starkey as well as Pete Townshend’s younger brother Simon.

The Who also plans to release a new studio album this year, its first since “Endless Wire” in 2006. Townshend, the band’s 73-year-old lead guitarist, said in a statement listeners will be treated to “dark ballads, heavy rock stuff, experimental electronica, sampled stuff and Who-ish tunes that began with a guitar that goes yanga-dang.”
