Chemical Explosion Damages St. Peters Home

An explosion in the basement of a St. Peters home caused significant damage on Thursday.

A St. Peters home was significantly damaged following a chemical explosion in the basement.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, major structural damage occurred following an explosion in the basement of a home at 63 Harvest Point Court just before noon on Thursday. Scott Freitag, assistant chief of Cottleville Fire Protection District told the Post-DispatchΒ two men were refinishing a concrete floor in the basement when fumes ignited.Β 

Freitag told theΒ Post-Dispatch the men were using a sprayer, but were not using proper ventilation and left a hot water heater on. Despite the explosion, neither of the workers were injured.Β

According toΒ theΒ Post-Dispatch, one wall in the home blown out nearly 18 inches and the garage door buckled.Β Freitag told the Post-Dispatch the home was not livable.
