Last Chance: St. Peters Hosting Cinnco de Mayo Golf Tourney

This week's last chance has an art show accepting submissions, outdoor swim season starting soon and a golf tournament.

Registration is now open for theΒ Cinco de Mayo Shoot-Out golf tournament on Saturday, May 5.

The event is open a four-person scrambleΒ with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. at theΒ .Β Cash prizes will be awarded to the top places in multiple flights, plus there will be closest to the pin and longest drive contests. The fee is $45 per player and covers golf, a cart and lunch. The tournament offers an optional cash skins game for $40 per team.

Call for Entries β€œBeyond the Brush” Art Show and Competition

Β is looking β€œBeyond the Brush” from June 8 to Aug. 13.Β  The art show and competition encourages artists to look past the classic paint brush and onto other tools such as palette knives, fingers, etc. to create beautiful, one-of-a-kind works. Paintbrushes are allowed, however, other tools must also be incorporated into the piece.

The show is open to both youth and adult, amateur and professional artists. Prizes will be awarded in the categories of Painting/Drawing and Mixed Media/Sculpture.Β Β Photography will not be accepted.

The cost to enter as an Arts Centre member is $15 for up for to four pieces. Non-members may submit up to three pieces for $20. The youth entry fee is $5 per piece.

Artwork will be received on Tuesday, June 5, from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The opening reception will take place on Friday, June 8, from 6-8 p.m.

Outdoor Swim Season Starting Soon

Registration for the outdoor pool season in St. Peters kicks off April 14 at theΒ .Β 

Swim teams will be forming for kids ages 6-18 in St. Peters.Β Teams are available for all three outdoor poolsβ€”,Β Β andΒ . Teams will compete in weekly meets against other teams in the St. Charles County Summer Swim League.

St. Peters residents can begin signing up at 8 a.m. on the first day of registration. Non-residents who are returning from a 2011 swim team may sign up after 9 a.m. Other non-returning swimmers may register between 10 a.m. to noon. Registration continues until teams are full.

Team representatives will be available to meet with parents and swimmers on the first day of registration.

Normal registration hours continue after April 14. The St. Peters Rec-Plex registration desk is open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Outdoor swim team fees for St. Peters residents are: $73 for the first child, $60.50 for the second child, and $55 for each additional child. Fees for non-residents are: $85 for the first child, $73 for the second child and $66 for each additional child. Extra fees may apply for specific teams.Β St. Peters residents must present a valid Resident Privilege Card in order to receive resident rates.

Parent volunteers are required to participate. No experience is necessary.
