MoDOT Schedules Work Monday on Blanchette Bridge and Interstate 70 Near Route 79

The Missouri Department of Transportation will be busy on Monday in St. Charles County.

MoDOT will close the far right lane of eastbound Interstate 70 near Route 79 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, April 29 for pavement repairs, weather permitting.

The lane closure will begin just east of Route 79. The entrance ramp from Route 79 to eastbound I-70 will also be closed. Northbound Route 79 motorists are advised to follow the message boards and use the north outer road to detour and access eastbound I-70.                

Closer to St. Louis, MoDOT will close multiple lanes in each direction on Interstate 70 at the Blanchette Missouri River Bridge from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Monday. Crews will be re-striping the lanes on the bridge as well as touching up striping at the ramps at Fifth Street in both directions.

Between 10 a.m. and noon, I-70 will be completely closed for up to 15 minutes each direction for striping on the bridge.

Crews will work in the westbound direction first at 10 a.m.  All lanes of westbound I-70 will be rolled to a stop while striping crews re-stripe the solid lane lines crossing the Blanchette Bridge.  Crews will then do the same process to stripe the eastbound I-70 Blanchette Bridge lanes.   All lanes of eastbound I-70 will be rolled to a stop while crews restripe the Blanchette Bridge.   It is expected these full stoppages will be finished by noon.

Motorists are advised to avoid I-70 from I-270 to Zumbehl during this late morning period on Monday.  Route 370 and Route 364 are alternate routes to cross the Missouri River.  Motorists who do use I-70 should be prepared to stop and should anticipate up to a 15 minute full closure in each direction.  For more information on the I-70 Blanchette Bridge rehabilitation project, go to www.modot.org/blanchettebridge.

Following the short full closures to stripe the bridge, crews will work from approximately noon to 2 p.m. with the right lane closed first in the westbound direction and then in the eastbound direction for re-striping at Fifth Street.  During the right lane closure on eastbound I-70, the ramp from southbound Fifth Street to eastbound I-70 will be closed for up to an hour.
