St. Peters Rec-Plex Skaters Win Winter Classic Title

For the second consecutive year the Rec-Plex won the ISI Winter Classic figure skating competition.

The figure skaters at the Β are now the back-to-back champs ofΒ the ISI Winter Classic figure skating competition.

in St. Peters, the skaters won the title in the event in Northbrook, IL, earlier in February.Β 

The Rec-Plex skaters racked up an even 1,000 points at the 2012 ISI Winter Classic to bring home the Ice Skating Institute’s Robert Unger Overall Team Champion Trophy. Two Chicago area rinksβ€”Niles Park District (638.5 points) and Northbrook Sports Center (619 points)β€”followed in secondΒ and thirdΒ place.

The ISI considers its ISI Winter Classic the nation’s biggest and best recreational ice skating competition. Skaters at the ISI Winter Classic can win medals and points, and the rink that has the most points during the event wins the teamΒ championship. This year’s event included 1,004 total competitors representing teams fromΒ 53 rinks from nine states and Mexico.

A total of 91 skaters, including 54 individual event skaters and six synchronized skating teams, represented the Rec-Plex at the ISI Winter Classic.Β Click here to see all of the results.

The Rec-Plex synchro teams all finished either firstΒ or secondΒ in their events:

  • Diamond Edges: firstΒ place, Teen Skating Compulsories, and firstΒ place in Teen Skating
  • Ice Gems, second place, Senior Youth Skating Compulsories, and firstΒ place, Senior Youth Skating
  • Jade Blades: firstΒ place, Senior Youth Skating
  • Onyx Ice: firstΒ place, Youth Skating Compulsories
  • Ruby Edges: firstΒ place, Senior Youth Formation
  • Emerald Blades: secondΒ place, Youth Formation

The public can watch these synchronized teams in action when the St. Peters Rec-Plex hosts the 2012 ISI Synchronized Skating Championship on March 30, March 31 and April 1. Admission is free.
