Unlike TV Reality Shows, Pawn Business 'Is Everyday Stuff'

Extreme Pawn owner Tim Fairbanks says the shop doesn't see the odd, unique or amazingly expensive items that draw viewers to reality TV.

So it isn't all the television reality shows make it out to be.

Tim Fairbanks, owner/manager of St. Peters' Extreme Pawn, said that "every pawn shot,Β for the most part, is not going to be Pawn Stars."

"We don't see the Queen Victoria'sΒ jewels or a Shelby Cobra or a submarine," Fairbanks said, referring to the unusual and often pricey items that come through the doors of reality TV pawn shows.

"We don't have anyone flying in to sell us big-ticket items," Fairbanks said.

Fairbanks said the shop deals in the everyday: jewelry, tools, firearms and musical equipment. He said that the most common item pawned is jewelry, because it's valuable andΒ easy to pawn.

Extreme Pawn is located at 5955 Suemandy Drive and is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The shop also buys and sells electronics, cameras, DVDs and sporting equipment as well as larger items such as ATVs, motorcycles and boats.
