Vote Now: Pick the Latest Spring Sports Athlete of the Week

Memorial Day weekend means the spring sports season is just about finished. Track closed up shop this weekend and the field of soccer teams still alive in each class can be counted on one hand.

The games and events mean more, and that means the best of the best step up and rise to the occasion. So here's what we're looking for, tell us in the poll below: Who was the St. Charles County player of the week for the week beginning on May 21?

Here are the nominees: 

Josh McDonald—: Josh McDonald is a State champion. The Timberland thrower was the best man with a discus in all of Class 4. His championship toss cleared 187-feet, 10 inches—nearly 10-feet more than the runner-up. The junior's state title is the first in his high school career. His older brother, Alex, also has a state win in the discus.

Nataliyah Friar—: Nataliyah Friar will be heading back from the State meet with a second-place medal. The Holt junior nearly out-jumped the field at the Jefferson City meet with her showing in the Class 4 long jump. Friar cleared an impressive 18.5 feet in the finals to capture second place. She was beaten by Jazmin McCoy of North Kansas City, who cleared 19-feet. Friar also placed seventh in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.30 seconds. Her second-place (eight points) and seventh-place (one point) finish gave Holt nine of its 21 team points en route to an 11th place finish. 

Emily Monroe—: Emily Monroe and the St. Dominic girls soccer team are on quite a run. The Crusaders are in the Final Four of the Class 2 State tournament after back-to-back wins last week. Both wins for St. Dominic came in impressive fashion—on May 22, the Crusaders won 6-0 and on May 26, the girls won 8-1. The offense has been pretty spread out among the team, but the biggest contributor last week was Emily Monroe. Against Union, Monroe netted two goals to pace the Crusaders' offense. In the next game against Visitation, Monroe was at it again. She scored another two goals, including the game-winner to put St. Dominic into the Final Four. 

Alexis Robbers—Orchard Farm: The Orchard Farm girls soccer team saw the season end on Saturday with a 6-1 loss to Principia. The loss knocked the Eagles out of the State tournament, just shy of the Final Four. To get the Elite Eight, Orchard Farm first had to take on Winfield. The Eagles dominated the contest, winning 3-1. Orchard Farm had three different players score goals, including Alexis Robbers. Against Principia, Robbers was able to find the back of the net again giving her two goals in two games for the Eagles in the most important games of the season.
