Week in Review: Chief Bishop Retiring, Women Injected Heroin Before Fatal Crash and More

In case you missed them, here were some of the top headlines from the St. Peters Patch from the last few days.

St. Peters Police Chief is Retiring

• After 44 years in law enforcement, 23 in St. Peters and 13 as the chief of police, Tom Bishop will retire on Sept. 1. His replacement will be his current second-in-command, Major Jeff Finkelstein.  "I've never worked in a better place and I've never worked with better people," Bishop said.

New Rec-Plex Scoreboard Bids Overbudget

• The Rec-Plex Natatorium scoreboard could soon be replaced as part of the ongoing Proposition P projects. In the original pitch for Prop P projects, the new scoreboard was one of the first on the list and budgeted at $125,000. The two bids presented Thursday will both be over the projected budget—a Colorado Time Systems scoreboard is budgeted at $148,350 and a bid from Daktronics comes in at $170,339. 

• A woman who caused an accident on Willott Road in St. Peters, killing two elderly people April 13, told police she had injected heroin before the accident. Christine Marie Brown, 42, of the first block of Debbie Drive in St. Peters, was charged Thursday with possession of a controlled substance and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

Déjà Vu: Violet Takes Oath of Office for Second Time in Seven Months

• If she keeps her current pace, Terri Violet will soon have the oath of office memorized. Violet, Ward 3, was sworn on Thursday night to retain her seat on the Board of Aldermen following her win in the April 2 election. It was the second time in nearly seven months Violet has taken the oath—two more times than any other board member during that time span. 

• Six St. Peters parks that were closed last week because of flooding concerns were re-opened on Tuesday. One park—370 Lakeside Park—is still shut down. Woodlands Sports Park, Lone Wolff Park, Brown Road Park, Sports Center Park, Rabbit Run Parkand St. Peters Golf Course had been closed since April 18 as an abundance of rain made bodies of water swell. As more rain fell Tuesday, the city re-opened the parks to the public.
