Zumwalt South Girls, East Boys Win District Openers
Lady Bulldogs and Lions advance in District playoffs with Monday night wins.

Two St. Peters basketball teams will get to play another game while another say its season end on Monday night.Β
The Class 5, District 7 basketball tournament kicked off at the Fort Zumwalt North gym.Β TheΒ Fort Zumwalt SouthΒ girls and theΒ Zumwalt EastΒ boys basketball teams came away as winners and will advance in the tournament. On the losing side of the coin, the Zumwalt East girls and Francis Howell North boys will pack up and prepare for next year.Β
The girls kicked the tournament off with a South (10-16) vs. East (2-24) matchup. The two Zumwalt rivals were meeting for the third time this season and, just like the prior two matchups, the Bulldogs came out on top.

South piled on the points and routed East 50-20 for a 30-point win and a ticket to the second round of the tournamet.Β
TheΒ St. Louis Post Dispatch reportsΒ Claire Johnson led three Bulldogs in double figures with 15 points. Madison German scored 12 and Abby Modaff added 11.Β Nikki Taylor and Bridget Wigglesworth had seven points apiece for the fifth-seeded Lions (2-24).

The Lady Bulldogs won't have much time to celebrate the win. Zumwalt South will be back on the court on Tuesday to take on top-seeded Francis Howell Central at 5:30 p.m.Β
In the night cap, the Zumwalt East (10-16) were able to extend the season with a 49-39 win against Francis Howell North (8-18).Β
The Lions' Josh Ross led all scorers with 24 points to help push the fifth-seeded East past the fourth-seeded Knights.Β James Gleeson led Howell North with 16 points.
Zumwalt East will next play top seed Zumwalt South at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
