April 14: It's a Killer of a Day, Back in the Day

See No. 5 below.

1) Opening night of "All in the Timing" by David Ives, at Lindbergh High School auditorium, 7pm, admission $5. It's six one-act plays relying on comedic word play and absurd scenarios. Runs today, Friday, Sat.

2) Sunset Hills Parks & Rec Commission meets at 6:30pm in the city Community Center behind City Hall. New business includes planning for tennis courts and picnic pavilion destroyed in the New Year's Eve tornado.

3) Crestwood and Sappington elementary schools both have PTO/PTG meetings at 7pm. Prior to Crestwood's, parents of fifth-graders gather at 6pm, to hear from middle school principals about their children's school change in the coming year.

4) Crestwood Board of Adjustment meets to consider variances for two backyard sheds and construction of a deck, on Sappington, Pine Spray and Westglen.

5) April 14 seemed an unlucky day in looking over the years. In 1865, President Abe Lincoln was assassinated on this date. In 1912 on this date, the RMS Titanic struck an iceberg and sunk the following day. On this date in 1846, the Donner party left Springfield, IL for California, but encountered a blizzard in the mountains, and resorted to cannibalism of fellow (dead) travelers to survive.
